Youth Leadership Institute (YLI)

Our Story

We thank you for your interest in the 2023-2024 Youth Leadership Institute. The Delta Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is excited to offer a free program that fosters leadership development in our youth, prepares them for a lucrative future, and exposes them to fun and engaging opportunities.

We want to train our youth to lead with knowledge, confidence, and tools of distinction by equipping them with sound principles and values to make good life choices and decisions in their everyday lives. During the program, our youth leaders will attend and help lead monthly workshops on having a growth mindset, goal setting, civic & social awareness, career exploration, cultural exposure, and even have an optional chance to embark on a trip to Tokyo, Japan! In addition to all of this, they will participate on a committee to prepare for the end-of-year environmental project, community service project, and program final presentations. As a culmination to the program, youth leaders will be honored with a night to commemorate all of their learnings and accomplishments. Please click here to complete the application. The Foundations of Leadership & Success
Engagement in Exploration, Discovery, and Self-Expression
Using the Power of Purpose to Drive Success

Participant Requirements

All genders are welcome.
Be 11-13 years old at the start of the program.
Attend required workshops and field trips. Participants are allowed two (2) unexcused absences.
Actively participate.
Meet scheduled deadlines outlined by the schedule.
Dress appropriately.
Show good character.

Parent/Guardian Requirements

Ensure participants have transportation to and from meetings & field trips.
Ensure participants arrive on time.
Assist, when needed, to help your scholar be successful.
